Today is a special day on the calendar of Christians around the world. Some call this "Maundy Thursday" because of the events recorded in John's Gospel and attributed to Thursday evening before the Friday Jesus was crucified, that Passover weekend about 2000 years ago, in Jerusalem. All this week I've been inviting us to join the gathering in that 'upper room' where Jesus and His disciples are celebrating the Passover meal. I think it's fair to say the expectations of the disciples and the expectations of Jesus were very different as they mounted the steps to that 'upper room' that evening. As John tells us in John 13:1 "Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and go to the Father...". Jesus also knew the devil had prompted one of His own disciples, Judas Iscariot, to make a betrayal contract with some of the religious leaders and later that evening that betrayal would be accomplished in the Garden of Gethsemane, after this Passover meal.
