Yesterday I left you in the port city of Caesarea about 2000 years ago, and the Jewish apostle Peter had just been escorted into the house of Roman centurion Cornelius. Peter had said: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean. So, when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection.” (Acts 10:28,29) Of all the places Peter had ever been in his lifetime, including being dragged before the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem, (Acts 4:5-22) I doubt Peter had ever felt more out of place than this day at Cornelius’ house, surrounded by Gentiles and Roman soldiers!
